About Duckmanton Edge Centre
The local Methodist Church leadership were intrigued by the activity in Staveley Edge Centre and the growing engagement with local community, they led Duckmanton Methodist Church, a small aging congregation with a big heart for community and gospel outreach. The team decided to graciously reached out to us and ask if we would like to use their facility to build something similar in the vastly under resourced and forgotten village of Duckmanton. Of course we jumped at the opportunity to potentially help the 1.7 thousand people in the area!
About the Duckmanton Area
The small rural village of Duckmanton is recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book which means a community has lived in this space for over 1000 years! The current community is a population of under 2000 people, who often feel left behind and forgotten as all local public amenities have closed, and even buses rarely run through the town.
The CDRC’s Index of Multiple Deprivation identifies Duckmanton in the second most deprived decile across England, that’s the bottom 20% in areas such as housing, education, health, and employment.
Duckmanton Edge Centre is overseen by our Chesterfield leadership team:
Carl Beech, Karen Tullett, Steve Martin, Gemma Carneiro, Katie Meadows, Lee Tuttle & Andrea Hutchinson.
